Movie Rental Deals & Freebies for Winter Break

December 14, 2010 at 11:42 am Leave a Comment

We watch a lot of movies over winter break—from our holiday movie marathon to the kids’ new DVD gifts to movies rented to pass the time while we stay cozy & warm indoors, it’s one of my favorite frugal family fun activities. In fact, we specifically picked out our couch because it had plenty of room for snuggling the whole family!

There are a lot of great deals available right now, that are making it even more inexpensive—just add popcorn for free family entertainment.

Blockbuster Online: Free 2-week trial—this one will start charging a monthly fee as soon as your trial ends, but a long winter break is the perfect time to give it a shot if you’ve been considering a mailbox rental service.

Redbox: Don’t you just love the convenient red boxes all over town? $1/night is already a pretty sweet deal, but today’s Groupon makes it even better! For just $1, you can get 3 1-night movie rentals.

Amazon Video on Demand: Amazon is currently featuring 99 movies for just $2.99—you can watch them on your computer or television at any time.

Your local library: My girls “rent” movies almost every week from the library—it’s completely free and usually not due back for an entire week. The new releases are sometimes on a really long waiting list, but it’s perfect for letting the kids pickout a movie for a week with no school.
