Texas Book Festival

October 13, 2010 at 1:09 pm Leave a Comment

If you’re a bookworm (said with great affection as I’m a self-proclaimed bookworm), this is a great weekend to be in Austin!

The annual Texas Book Festival, takes place at the State Capital Building this Saturday and Sunday and is FREE to the public! Both days are jam packed with discussion panels, author sessions, book signings, live music and entertainment, and stuff for the kids.

Established by First Lady Laura Bush (a former librarian and literacy advocate) in 1995, The Texas Book Festival is a non-profit organization supported by generous donations and corporate sponsorships that help keep the festival free for all to enjoy. Nearly 40,000 visitors visit Austin for the festival!

That being said, all sessions are on a first-come, first-serve basis so be familiar with the festival schedule and get in line early for your favorite authors and book signings!

Authors include:

  • Alton Brown
  • Diana Kennedy
  • Mark Oldman
  • Laura Bush
  • Karol Rove
  • Heloise (someone ask her some frugal housekeeping tips!)
  • P.J. O’Rourke
  • Meg Cabot

WHEN: October 16-17

WHERE: Texas State Capital Building
