Tried It Tuesday: Keurig Single Cup Home Brewing System

December 1, 2009 at 12:30 pm 1 Comment

After much debating over what to get my husband for an anniversary gift I decided on this Keurig B60 Special Edition Gourmet Single-Cup Home-Brewing System.

For years, every time we made a full pot of coffee, half of it went down the drain. I am usually only good for one cup anyway and it has to be decaff but the problem is he drinks high-test or what I call crude oil, so there really is no happy medium.

Another area of disagreement is that I like flavored coffee and he prefers regular. How we ever got together is beyond me. Coffee is such an important part of the morning and to have a really good cup of coffee just sets the tone for the day.

One day, we just quit making coffee and I solved our problem by going instant — one regular and one decaff. Of course, it is not anywhere near as good as fresh brewed but at least it gave us a jump start to the day.

Finally about six months ago, a friend of mine introduced me to this coffee system and demonstrated it while we were dining at her house. I knew right then I wanted one and that it would solve all of our issues with morning coffee. It just seemed the perfect solution to our conflicting preferences for coffee. Our 22nd anniversary was a good excuse to purchase one.

We both love it and can’t wait to make fresh brewed coffee each morning. The coffee comes in small single serve sealed cups and we have a variety of coffees to choose from. I was told you can order on line and request auto ship. Also a couple of the manufacturers offer Buy 2 boxes Get 1 box Free deals. That offer rang home for me.

The fun thing about this brewer is that we don’t have to settle on one brand. I can purchase flavored decaff and he can go with the stronger varieties. We can also use tea cartridges and hot chocolate. I have not tried the samples provided as of yet.

This system brews coffee faster than I can heat a hot mug of water in the microwave. Each morning, I check to make sure there is water in the reservoir, press the power button, give it three minutes to initialize and heat the water, pop in the coffee cartridge and in 30 seconds or less we have a steaming cup of java. It is so fast you can still use it for larger groups and everyone enjoys picking out their own variety/blend.

This brewer definitely is my favorite purchase of the week, month, and year so far. Well I take back year. So far for the year it is the Apple MacBook MB466LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop. I am a first time Mac user and will never go back to PC. In trying to express how much I like my Mac, I would use all of my space so I won’t go there today. If you are thinking about purchasing this brewer system, make sure you get the one with 3 brew sizes. My friend has used both types and she says that this is by far the best way to go. We’re happy!

UPDATE: I wrote this post back in June when I had purchased our Keurig for my husband.  I must say it has been one of the best gifts I have bought him that we have both enjoyed and benefitted from.

If you have been thinking about one, I just found a better deal.

Read up on the differences between the two. One may be bigger and have more bells and whistles. Mine is pretty simple. Of course I purchased mine when it was not on sale, unfortunately. This is a SWS favorite. Makes a great Christmas gift — especially for families (such as mine) that differ in their coffee preferences… caffeine vs. decaff, flavored vs. non-flavored

Thanks for the follow-up review. We usually read the reviews just out of the box, but rarely read the follow-ups when people have used the product for a while. I appreciate the update and knowing that this is still a good machine for your scenario.
