Austin Farmers’ Markets

February 23, 2011 at 3:41 pm Leave a Comment

I have never lived in a city with as many farmers’ markets as Austin, and I love it! The Sustainable Food Center runs three delightful farmers’ markets in and around Austin that I frequent, plus a handful of neighborhood markets. The selection and quality of fresh fruits, veggies, meats, breads, and cheese is just astounding, not to mention the canned goods, homemade items, fresh cut flowers, potted plants, local honey…I could go on and on.

By now, we all know the benefits of farmers’ markets—local, organic, sustainable—but you wouldn’t believe what a little sunshine and fresh air do for your outlook on life on a Saturday morning! Even if you just stop by for some steaming hot breakfast tacos (they are irresistible, I’m telling you), any of the SFC farmers’ markets are a great way to start your weekend and support your community.

Wonderful people, wonderful offerings, wonderful markets.

Downtown Farmers’ Market

Saturday 9am – 1pm
Republic Square Park – 4th & Guadalupe

Sunset Valley Farmers’ Market

Saturday 9am – 1pm
Toney Burger Center – 3200 Jones Rd.

The Triangle Farmers’ Market

Wednesday 3pm – 7 pm (hours vary throughout year)
The Triangle – 46th & Lamar

There are literally dozens of farmers’ markets around the city and in the suburbs. Do you have a favorite?
