I have promoted green cleaning for awhile now—with 3 kids & 4 pets in the house, it just makes me feel better to know the cleaners I am using are safe for them. Seventh Generation has several products available that are quicker & easier than making your own. Last month, I received a green cleaning kit to review and went on a bit of a cleaning binge!
The kit included an all-purpose cleaner, bathroom cleaner, disinfecting wipes, recycled paper towels & The Conscious Kitchen book. I’d show you before & after pictures, but, well, no one wants to see the first ones. Seriously, just trust me on that. June Cleaver I am not. Right now, though, my kitchen sparkles!
Plus, the cleaners smell so good I was much more willing to pick up a spray bottle tot tackle the bathrooms. They are made with lemongrass & thyme, which has disinfecting powers. This makes for a clean & fresh scent, but the hubby did tell me to let you know that it is very strong! I think it’s a lot better than a chemical smell, but if you aren’t a fan of lemon or thyme, you won’t like the powerful scent.
I also received 2 rolls of paper towels. Around here, that should be about a year’s supply! At least. We eliminated paper towels over a year ago. However, I do miss having them when it’s time for frying bacon, which I promptly did as soon as I opened the package.
The paper towels are made from recycled materials, unbleached and compressed. This means you get more paper towels in a smaller roll—less packaging waste and more rolls per delivery truck for an even smaller carbon footprint! Plus, the brown paper towels match my coffee themed kitchen. It’s the little things.
Disinfecting wipes were also included in this kit. They’re made with the same lemon/thyme combination. I will admit this is my weakness. I love the idea of wiping down all the icky, frequently handled spots—doorknobs, light switches, stair rails—but I’ve been good lately about not buying the chemical wipes. Once this package is empty, I’ll definitely be replacing it!

we try to watch and be green all year, but it’s a special reminder at this spring green time of year to recycle and be wise stewards of God’s blessings!

We already use cloth diapers, wipes, napkins, and “paper” towels. I think we’ll start a garden.
I didn’t realize when I first started researching these that it was earth month, but recently I have been looking into switching to cloth diapers. We have also been trying to find some good green cleaning products that will be safe for our baby boy on the verge of crawling and getting into EVERYTHING. It just seems that everything green is so expensive and it’s hard to shell out that much money if you don’t know for sure whether it works well!! 🙂 SO now in honor of Earth month, I am determined to find an affordable green cleaner that works and will be safe for my family!!

#1 I am doing several activities for Earth day this month. We are starting a compost at our house and planning our gardening for the season. For my Girl Scout troop we are picking up litter at two different times and hosting a Earth Day coloring contest for the younger Girl Scouts in our area!

With 2 girls under 3 my husband and I have become more and more aware of what products we use in our house as well as what we feed our kids. Since we went all natural with meds and organic as much as possible with food we thought it was time to “go green” with cleaning products/laundry as well. We aren’t “tree huggers” but we are doing this to enable our daughters to grow in a chemical free home. I LOVE the laundry detergent since my baby girl (5months) has sensitive skin and the kitchen cleaning products do not have an overwhelming clorox smell!

We try to celebrate Earth month every month by planting seeds and plants, recycling, using fabric shopping bags, shopping locally, etc. We are always looking for ways to be kinder to our planet!
