My New Coupon Binder: How I’m Making the Switch

September 14, 2010 at 8:06 am

Coupon Binder (affiliate link)Through my 12 years of couponing, I’ve been through a variety of coupon storage systems. I’ve used envelopes, I’ve used accordion files, I’ve used baby wipe containers, I’ve used file folders and, yes, I’ve even used a coupon binder. It is by far the best system for saving the most money.

But…

My binder was bulky, cumbersome and exhausting to keep up on. I’ve become a lazy couponer recently, preferring to clip or print only what I was planning to use at the store that very day. And, as a result, our grocery budget has suffered. Gluten free items & fresh foods are pricey enough, but I’ve missed out on deals, come home without something I needed & searched the house for just the right coupon to match my grocery list more times than I can count.

Purple Coupon Clutch (affiliate link) Enter the Coupon Clutch—the newest member of Team Inexpensively sent me the miracle cure to my coupon organization problems. She has created a fun, stylish binder that is also functional & lightweight. I’m diving back into the binder system, ready to save a bundle of money, and this time I know I’ll be successful.

And, not just because I’m so excited to carry this gorgeous tote around the store!

I have a plan in place to make this transition simple. Here’s how it works: Rather than trying to clip every coupon I have stored, stuffed or stashed around the house, I’m going to start with new coupons as they come in. In the past, I’ve attempted to clip all my coupons, tiring out long before I get through the giant stack. This time, I’m clipping the Red Plum coupons that came in the mail, and filing the Catlinas I just received at the grocery store. This weekend, I clipped the Smart Source coupons from the Sunday newspaper.

The rest? Will stay in their file folders until they’re needed. I guess I’ll be maintaining two coupon systems for awhile, but I’m convinced it’s going to make the transition easier to manage. Eventually, the filed coupons will all be used up or expire, as I fill my new binder with current coupons. I am loving the different sizes that are included in the Coupon Clutch deluxe system. The 3-pocket pages are perfect for Catalina coupons, and the 6-pocket pages hold the wide coupons that gave me fits when I was trying to fit everything into the small baseball card pages.

You can buy the tote to hold your own binder, with a binder or as a full just-add-coupons system. For the DIY set, they even sell the pattern & pages separately so you can create your own tote. That is most definitely not for me, but how cool is it? Whatever your style, you’ll save 10% when you use coupon code inexpensively through 10/31!
