Gas Savings at the Grocery Store

March 18, 2009 at 4:14 pm

With gas prices constantly on the move and once again on the rise, families are left struggling to find a balance. Our local grocery stores are working to help us maintain our budgets.

Kroger has a program that enables you to earn a discount on gasoline at any Kroger location. The deal is when you spend $100 in a calendar month, you earn a $.10/gallon discount. The key to big savings is that this $100 you have to spend is calculated before your coupons are deducted! So you can actually earn the discount, even if $100 never came out of your pocket.

Meijer’s promotion is designed to help you avoid the issue of going for gas only to discover it went up $.20 overnight. Register your cell phone for Meijer gas alerts by texting gas & your zip code (i.e. GAS12345) to Meijer (634537). You will receive a text message from Meijer any time the gas prices are scheduled to rise. The text will give you the date and time of the price increase, allowing you to fuel up before it takes affect.

Mix and match these deals throughout the year to keep your vehicle fueled for less and check back next week as we explore more ways to lower your fuel expenses.
