Inexpensive Mineral Makeup: Orglamix Review

February 2, 2010 at 3:51 pm

Last month, I had the opportunity to try pure mineral makeup from Orglamix—it is a mom-made product sold only through Etsy. If you are already a mineral makeup fan, go ahead and skip down to the best part, where I tell you how awesome and affordable this makeup is.

For the rest of you, who are new to mineral makeup like me, I have to tell you a little more. Now, I have never been much of a makeup person. I remember begging to wear makeup when I was too young for it but once my parents finally relented, I realized it was just more trouble than it was worth. Of course, that was back when I was a fresh-faced kid who didn’t really need makeup.

Oh, how times have changed! Yet, I still went bare on all but special occasions. Makeup took too long to apply, clogged my pores and irritated my skin—I was usually ready to scrub it all off shortly after I got started. When I began hearing about mineral makeup, a few years ago, it sounded like the solution—light, barely there makeup. I never tried it because I balked at the expense. It was supposed to be lighter on your face, but at a hefty price. My friend Julie, however, uses nothing else (and spends a small fortune for the privilege).

I am a true mineral convert now and so excited to discover that it can be truly affordable! Orglamix makeup feels light on my face. It gives me the coverage I need to look (and feel!) good, while I feel like I’m not wearing anything at all. I even played makeup with Julie, and it gets the MFJ Seal of Approval! It is also super easy to apply. With the brush set I received in my starter kit, I can have my face looking gorgeous in about 5 minutes.

I’m wearing makeup more frequently, which is super helpful in light of Project 365—it’s nice to know if a self-portrait is the picture of the day (you know, because I forgot until everyone fell asleep), I am camera ready. I’m getting a lot of comments about how I look, which kind of gives me a complex about how I’ve looked for the last several years. Just yesterday, Stacia’s teacher asked why I was so dressed up. I had my unwashed hair in a ponytail, wore laundry day pants and a zippered puffy vest but my makeup was done!

My only complaint about Orglamix is that I make a big mess. I’m pretty good with the foundation and blush—it’s super easy to shake what I need into the lid and apply. The eye minerals are a much finer powder, but the holes in the container are the same size. It just pours out, and I can’t figure out how to get it back into the container. Currently, my favorite eye shade is sitting open because there’s a month’s worth of powder already in the lid! I’m sure this is primarily user error, but I wish the eye containers were customized for the finer makeup.

The best part about Orglamix? It’s about a quarter the cost of most mineral makeup! A gram of eye shadow is only $3.99. The starter kit (with brushes) that I received retails for $39.99—it’s an absolute steal! She also offers specials, for added value each week. Plus, she provides a 100% guarantee—if you don’t like a color, send it back & choose a new one. I was a little concerned about the mangosteen eye mineral and thought I might have to take her up on that. I braved the orange eye shadow, though, and was pleased to see that it worked!

With the array of colors available, you’re sure to find something you love too. Click here to check out the entire collection. This is a Mom Made That review, so be sure you mention Mom Made That in the note section when you checkout to receive a bonus eye color completely free! Orglamix has also generously agreed to let one of our readers try it for herself—simply leave a comment here telling me which of the many eye colors you think you’d like best.
