Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. We’ve heard the mantra for years, but the concept can actually reduce your family’s budget as well. There are several low cost ways to avoid using disposable items.

Swiffers are another great trend, but the refills really add up. Purchase a package of washable microfiber towels from the auto department instead. You can cut these to fit, wash and reuse. The static cling in the material is just as good, if not better, at collecting dirt, dust & hair than the expensive disposable products. Use dish towels over paper towels. You can even try cloth napkins over disposable.

How many storage totes have you purchased over the years in an effort to organize your home? Don’t overlook the many storage boxes you bring home from the grocery store every week. Baby wipe containers are the perfect size for storing and stacking office supplies, toys and miscellaneous household items. That empty peanut butter jar is just the right size to store the kids’ crayons. Butter containers make the perfect take ‘n toss container for leftovers.

Reducing your energy use with a simple light bulb switch can have a big impact on your monthly bills. The Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs now come in a variety of sizes & shapes. They put out the same amount of light, with much less energy. Switch bulbs all over the house and you’ll notice a reduction in our electric bill the very next month.

It is never too late to think about your family’s impact on the planet. Isn’t it nice to know that a few simple changes can have a positive impact on your wallet as well?
