Tonight, I stumbled upon an amazing website. The site is called Games That Give and their tagline is “You play. We give. No catch.”
After playing a couple games of solitaire, completing a Sudoku puzzle, and finding an addictive game called “Bricks Breaking” I noticed the ticker at the top of the site that said: “GamesThatGive has given $32339.30 to charity”. The best part was that the amount kept increasing the whole time I was on the site playing games. If I didn’t have a post to write I probably would still be online playing one of over 20 games on their site.
So how does playing online games for free help charities? The website explains how it works: “We charge sponsors to advertise in our games, and we take 70% of that money and give it directly to the charity that you’re playing for.” While I was playing, I saw Propel and Starbucks ads in the games.
I think this website is great for those who love playing online games and those that want to help out a charity & make an impact on others by doing something they already do (playing games) through a venue they use frequently (the internet). I also love the fact that it doesn’t cost anything to help others.
