Our Countdown to Christmas is wrapping up (ha! Get it?)—3 days until Christmas.
Christmas is a time for family. We mail holiday cards to those far away, exchange gifts with those near and dear and gather round the table with relatives far and wide. Now is the perfect time to not only create new holiday traditions but share memories and heirlooms from years past.
Take the time to ask your grandparents about their childhood or your parents’ childhood. Share your own stories with younger generations. Set aside a portion of your holiday festivities to swap pictures or work on a family album. You might even consider creating a new gift tradition—pass on family keepsakes and heirlooms!
One of my favorite holiday decorations as a child was the Santa Claus house my mother made in ceramics class. As she added to her decor, it faded into the background. The look and feel of her decorations have changed and she has no longer displayed the house.
Last year, she gifted it to me. I love having this cherished piece of my childhood. There are actually several heirloom pieces in my holiday decor, but most of them represent loved ones who are no longer with us. I am so glad to have my mom’s gift while she can watch me enjoy it.
I hope you enjoy the coming Christmas celebrations with your own family! We have just a couple days left in our countdown. We’ll be sharing a fun activity tomorrow and on Christmas Eve, especially for those with children at home. Cherish this time with your family. It is the most priceless gift you can give this holiday season.
