Congratulations to Xenia and Katie, winners of last week’s Boogie Wipes and U-Printing sticker giveaways!
When My Blog Spark asked me to review Old El Paso’s new game for family taco night, I jumped at the chance. Taco Night is a definite favorite around here—it’s the one, fast & easy meal we can all enjoy. My youngest is a vegetarian, which leaves out most one dish meals, and I am not a pasta fan so that eliminates the rest. Taco Night can be enjoyed by all just by including refried beans on the menu.
We frequently serve tacos for a large group, since it’s fast, easy and feeds a crowd inexpensively (especially if you cut the meat with rice or beans). Since Old El Paso was footing the bill, I went with all our favorite fixins! They were served up in my favorite dishes and, apparently, I never use those just for the family. Brenia asked who was coming over when she saw me preparing dinner. Oops! Old El Paso makes my favorite taco shells. I only wish the Stand ‘n Stuff shells came in white corn, but it’s so great to fill a taco without spilling stuff everywhere that I let it go. The wide-bottomed shells do crack more easily, but my sis clued us in on using the refried beans as a glue to keep them together!
While we ate, we played the game I received in my packet. You can print your own at any time on the El Tacodor website. The object of the game is to collect enough ingredients to create a taco, thus becoming El Tacodor! Each ingredient features a different challenge—Crunch Time (1-minute challenges), Meat-n-Greet (getting to know you), Lettuce Play (pantomimes), Lime Light (performances) and Say Cheese (for the totally goofy and random). The girls all had a great time, but Lorelai was a bit young to understand most of it. She got the first turn and when asked to pick an ingredient (after I listed all 5 categories), she picked salt!
She did, however, make a great Terrasic Taco dinosaur. Of course, that directly defied our long-standing “no pretending at the dinner table” rule, but it was a good time. We munched, we played and we laughed all the way through dinner. It made me wonder why we don’t schedule family game night more frequently. Once you start playing, you can even use their website to schedule your next family taco night and download new challenges each month. Stacia is now our reining El Tacodor. I’m pretty sure I have to print her Certificate of Awesomeness now. (You can print those from their website too!)
I, however, tied for last with our youngest daughter. Stacia has awarded me the title of El Tacodork. You, too, can end an evening of family fun with our now infamous quote, “Why is there taco on the dog?” if you download challenges and score sheets or win one right here. You have the chance to win an Old El Paso El Tacodor gift pack of your own! MyBlogSpark has provided a gift pack for one of our readers.
