One of the many hiking trails in Austin. That I've gotten lost on.

Austin has miles and miles of beautiful hiking, biking, and running trails. Unfortunately, I get lost every time I try to navigate one on my own. I always make it back safely, but it gets a little sketchy sometimes.

Word of advice: Don’t ever ask me to read a map.

Thankfully, Bright Leaf offers FREE guided hiking tours for families on the 2nd Saturday and Sunday of every month!

Nestled between Mopac and 360 off of 2222 on Creek Mountain Road, Bright Leaf is a 216 acre nature preserve that’s within Austin proper. The trail is 4 miles long and the guided tour lasts approximately 2 1/2 hours, so put on your hiking boots, fill up your water jug, and get ready to explore!

Interesting story: Georgia Lucas purchased the land that is now Bright Leaf in 34 different real estate transactions over the course of her lifetime—a feat that would be impossible in Austin today! She asked that the parcel be preserved for others to enjoy the tranquil beauty and the Austin Community Foundation now owns and manages the property with the goal of fulfilling Ms. Lucas’ wishes.

I have never lived in a city with as many farmers’ markets as Austin, and I love it! Free Kite Making Workshops

One of my favorite events in Austin is the Zilker Park Kite Festival – the entire skyline is dotted with kites of all shapes, sizes, and colors and it is absolutely breathtaking to see. This year’s Kite Festival is scheduled for March 6th—I’ll give you all the event details closer to the big day—but now [...]

Half Price Entrees at Mama Fu’s

Mama Fu’s is one of my favorite quick service restaurants. The food is made-to-order and consistently tasty, the staff friendly, and the prices reasonable. We have a great Mama Fu’s right down the street with wonderful outside dining and live entertainment. In celebration of the Chinese New Year, all entrees at Mama Fu’s are half [...]
