This weekend, I attended BlogHer ’09 and met the fabulous ladies of Be Bright Pink. Unless you have been living under a rock for the last several years, linking charity and pink should already tell you it’s all about breast cancer awareness. Early detection is key to breast cancer survival, and the pink ribbon serves as a reminder for women to preform self exams each month. Be Bright Pink takes that concept a step further.
They support and provide education to young women who are high risk for breast or ovarian cancers. Their programs include support forums, education, advocacy, mentors and monthly e-mail reminders. Not only will they send you alerts when it is time for your monthly exam, they equip you with all the tools you need—including a how-to guide and references. They are even launching a mobile text alert system in October!
This isn’t just pink, it’s bright pink!

It is often surprisingly easy to help others just by being aware of what is available to you. Thankful Thursday is our chance to share the opportunities, organizations and services we have found!
[…] October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. {First things first: Feel your boobies, ladies! You are probably seeing pink items available for purchase everywhere you go. I appreciate the pink ribbon for its symbolic reminder to do monthly self exams. I also appreciate companies that donate a portion of their proceeds to programs that support research and early detection programs. […]
