For us, not only are the bed & breakfasts oftentimes cheaper than the hotel option, we love getting to know the innkeeper and learning about local history, places to eat, and sites to see. For me, it's also about supporting the small business owner, rather than the international corporation. Even on short trips, it's worth it to find a B&B in the area.
