The Countdown to Christmas continues—7 days until Christmas.
I realize not everyone perpetuates the Santa story, but for those who do there is nothing more exciting than a visit with the big guy! The children look forward to sharing their wish lists, and parents have high hopes of getting the perfect smiling photo. Of course, more often than not that photo ends up with one child in tears while the other has chocolate ice cream stains on her shirt. It’s the anticipation that makes the event!
Rather than spending a lot of money on disappointing photos with Santa, look for ways to share the event with your children on a budget. Watch for Santa appearances at retailers and other locations that will allow you to take your own photo. Not only will it save money, but you’ll own the rights to the photograph. You can use it on your holiday cards or even put the picture on an ornament.
If you do opt for professional Santa portraits, take care not to get caught up in the moment and overspend. Figure out exactly how many pictures you want in advance, set a budget and stick to it! It’s easier to overspend when you don’t have a definitive number to begin with. Plan ahead before you even leave the house.
It can also be a lot of fun to have Santa visit your house! Imagine the look on your child’s face when you show them proof of Santa’s visit. Take a picture of your home, then upload it to the site and add Santa Claus. The photo can be purchased for $9.95 for the first, and $.99 for each additional. Although, if you have good Photoshop skills, you could create photos of your own for free.
Don’t forget to help your child write a letter to Santa before you visit! I just love the small things that help capture the magic for little ones. From a Santa Key on the doorknob to a Polar Express Bell on the tree the kids think only they can hear, I love to weave a bit of North Pole magic into holiday traditions!
